Title Sequence Research

Title Sequence Research
When thinking of how we should create out title sequence, we needed to take in to consideration the types that are commonly seen in the horror genre, and imprint similar themes and ideas in to our own project. It's clear to see that the main link between each sequence is the presentation of disturbing images and objects that are related to the films plot. These help to set the tone and mood of the film for the audience in only the opening minutes. A key example of this would be the opening sequence of Saw (2004), which presents almost all these features.

In this title sequence, images relating to the plot of the film can be seen, such as barbed metal and news paper articles, as well as images relating to the horror genre as a whole. After the logos for companies involved had played, images of machinery and television screens are shown in rapid cuts, evoking the panicked and frantic feel that many of the characters felt in the film, as well as the uneasy feeling the makers want the audience to feel.  The quick, sharp cuts also have the effect of disorienting the audience, as they are trying to focus on all the different names being put across the screen at once, which in turn matches the theme for the whole movie, as it is meant to shock and thrill the audience through its disturbing imagery.
